Please Join Us For An Open Public Meeting 19 November 2022

The PEI Genealogical Society invites you to a public meeting to be held on Saturday, 19 November 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Sir Andrew Macphail Homestead, 271 McPhail Park Road, Vernon Bridge.

Directions: From Charlottetown take the Trans Canada Highway East through Vernon Bridge. McPhail Park Road will appear on the left at the base of a hill. You may notice signage for the entrance to Orwell Corner Historic Village as well. Turn left onto Macphail Park Road.  The paved portion will become a ‘red dirt road’ and #271 will be on the left shortly thereafter.

The Guest Speaker, John Flood, will present a talk titled: “Mystery Outcrop on the Selkirk Road, Latitude 46”

John will explore a particular geo-physical location deep in the woods on the Selkirk Road, whose significance is informed by the presence of an outcrop that bears an inscription of mysterious origin. Does it date back to the era of colonization, or even farther back in time to the era of the Vikings, or perhaps to prehistory? Or is it merely graffiti offered up by revellers in the last century? Either way, with the aid of photographs of the rock and its inscription, John will discuss plausible interpretations offered to him over time by both specialists and passers-by.

All are welcome to learn more about the Prince Edward Island Genealogical Society by staying on for a brief business meeting after Mr. Flood’s presentation.
