PEIGS Public Meeting – 24 February 2018

On Saturday 24 February 2018 the PEI Genealogical Society hosted historian and author Mr. Leonard Cusack speaking on his new book Owen Connolly: The Making of a Legacy the story of a poor Irish immigrant who became one of the wealthiest men on 19th century Prince Edward Island. When Connolly died in 1887, he left the profits from his estate to help poor, Irish Catholic boys gain an education. Over the past 128 years, the Connolly Estate has contributed bursaries to literally thousands of Irish Catholic students attending post-secondary studies. It was a very appropriate topic to mark Canada’s 2018 Heritage Week 19-24 February, being as the theme is: Heritage Stands the Test of Time.

The event took place at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House, corner of Kent and West Streets in Charlottetown.

Mr Cusack had copies of Owen Connolly: The Making of a Legacy on hand for sale. Following Mr. Cusack’s presentation a general membership meeting was held.
