PEIGS Public Meeting – 24 February 2018

The PEI Genealogical Society invites you to hear historian and author Mr. Leonard Cusack speak on his new book Owen Connolly: The Making of a Legacy the story of a poor Irish immigrant who became one of the wealthiest men on 19th century Prince Edward Island. When Connolly died in 1887, he left the profits from his estate to help poor, Irish Catholic boys gain an education. Over the past 128 years, the Connolly Estate has contributed bursaries to literally thousands of Irish Catholic students attending post-secondary studies. A very appropriate topic to mark Canada’s 2018 Heritage Week 19-24 February, being as the theme is: Heritage Stands the Test of Time.

The event takes place Saturday 24 February at 2:00 pm at Beaconsfield’s Carriage House, corner of Kent and West Streets in Charlottetown.

All welcome, free admission, refreshments available. You can support the work of the PEI Genealogical Society by taking a $25 membership available from the Treasurer at the meeting.

Mr Cusack will have copies of Owen Connolly: The Making of a Legacy on hand. Following Mr. Cusack’s presentation a general membership meeting will be held.
